Consumers ready to pounce on Black Friday

Many consumers say they are planning to dive into specific Black Friday deals, but a recent poll shows 46 percent of shoppers are willing to wait for deeper discounts this year. Jillian Kitchener reports.

After the turkey hangover, U.S. consumers traditionally flock to stores and snatch Black Friday deals fresh off the shelves. And this year is no exception. Outside a California Best Buy, some customers claimed their spots early in the week. SOUNDBITE: ANTHONY LUALEMAGA, SAYING: "We've been doing this for five years together and it's something we look forward to once a year." SOUNDBITE: ROBERT ESQUIVEL, SAYING: "If you have the money now, go in the store and spend it now. If you don't, then get in line." But others say sleeping outside is not their idea of fun. SOUNDBITE: ROSA ZEPEDA, SAYING: "Fighting for a tv? It's like noooo. I'm not going to stay up all night." SOUNDBITE: KENYA AGUIRRE, SAYING: "We feel we should just be at home with our families." A Reuters/Ipsos survey found more people plan to cut their holiday spending this year, with 46 percent also saying they believe they can wait until later in the season to get the REAL bargains. That's not stopping retailers like Wal-Mart from preparing for a surge in sales. The major retailer says it excepts online AND mobile sales to increase this holiday weekend. And so the shelves are stacked and cash registers are ready to sing... waiting for shoppers to honor the tradition of Black Friday.
