ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Billionaire businessman Donald Trump touched down at a campaign rally in Mesa, Arizona, on Wednesday (December 16), one day after facing off against his rivals in a Republican debate. Speaking to an audience of thousands, Trump, the current front-runner in the race, explained his previous night's pledge to stay within the Republican party. "It's just so much easier," he said. "They're saying, are you going to run as an independent? I said, you know, I just got a poll where I'm at 41 and other guys are at two and three and seven. Doesn't make a lot of sense." Trump also mused that his fellow candidates were less 'tough' on him than he expected. "Ted Cruz was very nice to me and I was nice to him. Actually most of the people were nice to me," he said, citing Jeb Bush and Rand Paul as the exceptions. Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said on Wednesday he expected the party to settle on a nominee for the 2016 presidential election by mid-April, playing down the possibility of a fight at its nominating convention next summer.
