A Christmas Day tornado damages homes, uproots trees in a low-income neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama. Diane Hodges reports.

Residents in parts of Birmingham, Alabama are grateful to be alive after a tornado tore through their community on Christmas Day. (SOUNDBITE - ENGLISH - LORETTA SCOTT, SAYING) "Now all I know is to say thank you Jesus, when you can't say nothing else." Scott's home and car were damaged in the late afternoon storm. It's the second time around for Scott. She moved here when her home in a town nearby was destroyed by a tornado. (SOUNDBITE - ENGLISH - LORETTA SCOTT SAYING) "It's just history repeating itself." At least three people were injured by the twister, which damaged homes, toppled trees and overturned cars in the low-income community of Hillman. (SOUNDBITE - ENGLISH - GWENDOLYN CALHOUN, NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT, SAYING) "We are a struggling community. Maybe this is the beginning of something better for Hillman." About 100 people are now spending the holidays cleaning up and figuring out how to move on.
