The bells tolled in Florence for American Ashley Olsen. The 35-year-old Florida native was murdered in her apartment last weekend and was remembered by loved ones at Santo Spirito church in the city center on Friday. Among the first to arrive for her funeral service... Olsen's boyfriend, Federico Fiorentini... questioned by police the night he found her body but not a suspect. This is the man police have arrested for her murder. They say he's an illegal immigrant from Senegal, called Diaw Cheik Tidianee. Police say the two met in a local nightclub; that they had consensual sex in her home under the influence of alcohol and possibly drugs... before he killed her. They say Olsen was strangled, but that an autopsy shows she also had two skull fractures that would have been fatal. Olsen's murder has attracted huge media attention. Outside her home… people offer floral tributes and condolences but wonder, too, could the young woman have done things differently that night? (SOUNDBITE) (Italian) FLORENCE RESIDENT ELISABETTA RIDI SAYING: 'You don't go like this with someone you have only known for three hours, taking him to your home. A murder is always terrible and disturbing, but she was not careful.'' (SOUNDBITE) (English) AMERICAN RESIDENT IN FLORENCE, PERRIN BLANK SAYING: 'This is very unusual for Florence. The lesson here is that we have to make very smart decisions." The traditional Italian custom is to clap to show respect for the dead. … for the dead - and for the living, who now have to mourn a life cut short and lay to rest a young American woman in the European city she had come to call home.
