ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Saturday said the United States was lifting its sanctions on Tehran after the U.N.'s watchdog announced Iran was in compliance with its obligations under the landmark nuclear accord set last year. Kerry also said that five Americans who had been held by Iran were released on Saturday and should be on their way "home" soon. Iran's state news agency said earlier in the day that their release was part of a prisoner swap that will have the U.S. also release seven Iranian nationals from jail. The names of the U.S. detainees were not immediately released but Reuters recently identified 12 Iranians in the U.S. jailed or facing charges for allegedly violating broad economic sanctions. Announcement of the prisoner exchange came on the very day a nuclear deal between Iran and world powers was set to go into effect, triggering the lifting of crippling sanctions on Iran for curbing its nuclear program.
