ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump told a town hall meeting in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina on Monday that Ted Cruz' allegations that the billionaire businessman would consider 'liberal judges for the Supreme Court in the wake of Justice Antonin Scalia, were not true. '"Donald Trump is going to appoint liberal judges.' Liberal judges?" Trump said. "It's a total lie. I am going to appoint, in fact I had mentioned, as you probably saw, I mentioned a couple of names during the debate, and they were very conservative people, highly thought of." "We've got to be very smart, we've got to be very careful. We've got a very unstable guy like Cruz. He's nuts." Republican lawmakers and presidential candidates hardened their positions on blocking a move by President Barack Obama to fill the Supreme Court seat left by the late conservative Justice Antonin Scalia, a lifetime appointment that would help decide some of the most divisive issues facing Americans. The next justice could tilt the balance of the nation's highest court, which was left with four conservatives and four liberals. The vacancy quickly became an issue in the 2016 presidential race. Trump had previously told NBC he would want "Someone just like Justice Scalia."
