ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz said on Wednesday (February 17) that rival Donald Trump has sent his campaign a 'cease and desist' letter to stop a campaign ad Trump calls misleading. Texas Senator Cruz spoke to reporters at news conference in Seneca, South Carolina, where he trails Trump in the polls ahead of the state's critical upcoming primary vote. Cruz told reporters that Trump's lawyers had sent his campaign a letter asking them to pull the ad, which they said falsely claims the New York billionaire is pro-choice. "And the letter concludes by threatening that if we will not pull down the ad that Mr. Trump will seek 'immediate legal action to prevent the continued broadcast of the ad," said Cruz. Cruz said that the threatened lawsuit was frivolous because it simply played footage of Trump making statements on television and would fail in court. "Even in the annals of frivolous lawsuits, this takes the cake. So Donald I would encourage you, if you want to file a lawsuit challenging this ad, claiming it is defamation, file the lawsuit," he said.
