Marco Rubio. "We don't know the exact results right now, we are effectively tied for second place, but each time, defying expectations," he said. As he celebrated his showing in South Carolina, Cruz took a moment to honor the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, later vowing to focus on the Supreme Court. "This election will be a referendum on the Supreme Court and I will tell you this, I can not wait to stand on that debate stage with Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders or whatever other socialist they nominate," Cruz said. "We are the only campaign that has beaten, and can beat Donald Trump," he said. Donald Trump easily defeated Cruz and Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who are in a close fight for second place and the right to declare themselves the anti-Trump alternative. Cruz won Iowa, coming in at 28 percent, beating rival Donald Trump who came in second with 24 percent. Cruz came in third in the New Hampshire primary
