ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Sybrina Fulton, the mother of shooting victim Trayvon Martin, endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton during a town hall meeting at Central Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina. "The reason why we are here, number one, the mothers of the movement, is because Secretary Clinton supported us, and we have to stand and support her," Fulton said. In 2012 Trayvon Martin, who was unarmed, was killed by a neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman in Florida. The Black Lives Matter movement grew out of the July 2013 acquittal of Zimmerman. "Nobody reached out to us, nobody listened to us, nobody said Black Lives Matter, until this brave and powerful woman stood up for us," she said. "I was never into politics, but now I am, and one of the reasons is because of her," she said. "I felt if she can stand up against all the men that she has to go up against, I can too," she said. "And we poured our heart to her because that is our passion right now, that is our passion for the rest of our lives," she said. "These stories as you call them, these tragedies for us, they never go away," she said. "I think about my son, day in and day out, I live with this day in and day out," she said. "And we have an opportunity to have someone who is going to stand up for us as African Americans, for us as women, I say my vote goes to Hillary Clinton," she said. Clinton was also joined by the mothers of Eric Garner and Sandra Bland. Garner, 43, died after being placed in a police chokehold on Staten Island in 2014. The 28-year old Bland, was found dead in her jail cell in Texas, three days after she was arrested for allegedly failing to use her turn signal. Officials said she hung herself. The Democratic presidential primary will be held in South Carolina on Saturday.
