ROUGH CUT (no reporter narration) STORY: Saying that he's not engaging in any political negotiations with his political rivals, Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz said Friday that he remains focused on winning enough delegates to clinch his party's nomination to be the next president of the United States. "At this point, I'm not engaging in any negotiations. I'm focused on winning the nomination. You know, I have to say, a lot of folks in Washington are really fond right now of talking about a brokered convention. A brokered convention is the pipe-dream of the Washington establishment. It is their hope that they can come and snatch this nomination away from the people," Cruz told reporters in Maine. "If you look at where we are in delegates right now, fewer than 100 delegates separates Donald Trump and me. I am the only candidate that has the delegate count, that has the states wins and is in a position to beat Donald Trump. If you want to beat Donald, the way to do it is to come together behind this campaign," Cruz added. At Thursday's debate in Detroit, Trump's rivals assailed him for shifting positions on the issues, but said in the end they would reluctantly support him if he were their party's nominee.
