And after that announcement at a rally for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in Chicago Friday night- things turned chaotic. Anti-Trump protesters who were inside the rally venue at the University of Illinois at Chicago pavilion quickly came to blows with Trump supporters. One person charged the stage and tore down a campaign sign. Words were exchanged, tempers flared, and punches were thrown. For those who came to see Trump, the interruption was unnecessary and unwarranted. (SOUNDBITE) (English) UNIDENTIFIED PERSON SAYING: "I came here undecided. I just wanted to hear him speak. No one comes to Bernie Sanders rallies and does this." Police moved quickly to defuse the situation, and ushered the crowd outside. But there, thousands more remained on the streets... local media showed footage of at least one person being arrested. (nats let him go!) And of at least one Chicago police officer with a bloodied face. Chicago activists say they'd spent the week leading up to the rally planning how to disrupt it. (SOUNDBITE) (English) UNIDENTIFIED PERSON SAYING: "This man, this demagogue, that came here, cancelled his event because of you. Because of you. This is something all UIC (University of Illinois at Chicago) students should be cheering for. This is our university. He came to our university and we shut him down." Trump has become a polarizing candidate in the campaign inspiring both impassioned supporters and angry dissent. After the event was cancelled he told media that he expected support for his candidacy would increase.
