ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Friday questioned whether Mitt Romney, was actually a Mormon, after a series of attacks from the party's former standard-bearer. Earlier this month, Romney lambasted Trump in a speech in Salt Lake City, calling him "a phony, a fraud" and saying it is his "very brand of anger that has led other nations into the abyss." On Friday, he said he would vote for U.S. Senator Ted Cruz in Utah's presidential nominating contest, but the party's 2012 election standard-bearer stopped short of an official endorsement as he urged voters to deny the nomination to front-runner Donald Trump. In a Facebook post, Romney said a vote for Cruz in Utah's caucus on Tuesday was the best way to prevent Trump from locking down the nomination, which would give opponents a chance to select another candidate at the party's July convention. At a rally in Salt Lake City Friday, Trump responded by asking whether Romney was really a Mormon and calling him, "a choke artist." The Mormon church is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah.
