For Mexico City's mostly poor neighborhood of La Merced, this is pay back time. Hundreds came out to watch the burning of an effigy of Donald Trump during a Holy Week tradition marking Easter... still outraged over the U.S. presidential candidate's anti-immigrant comments. (SOUNDBITE) (SPANISH) MIGUEL ANGEL TINOCO, RESIDENT, 70 YEARS OLD, SAYING: "It is a way to get even on Holy Saturday and burn the people that have harmed and betrayed us. In this case, we have chosen Donald Trump because we're truly tired of the nonsense he says and he's truly disastrous for us and hopefully he will not get elected president." Mexican media reported Trump effigies burning all across Mexico, from Puebla to Mexico's industrial hub Monterrey. The effigies are modeled on unpopular political figures. But they're meant to represent Judas, the man who betrayed Jesus in the Bible. (SOUNDBITE) (SPANISH) LEONARDO FELIPE LINARES VARGAS, ARTISAN WHO MADE DONALD TRUMP EFFIGY, SAYING: "Donald Trump is practically the same, right? A traitor, who knows very well that the working force of the United States is the Latino people and that's why he is burned as well." Trump is the front-runner to become the Republican party nominee for the presidential election in the U.S. He's angered Mexicans by accusing them of sending rapists and drug runners across the border, and vowing to make Mexico itself pay for a border wall to stop illegal immigration.
