Federal prosecutors say former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert had agreed to pay $3.5 million to silence an individual who he sexually abused when the victim was a teenager. In a new court filing, prosecutors accuse Hastert of molesting several boys in the 60s and 70s when he was a high school teacher and coach in Illinois. The statute of limitations has expired on prosecuting him for sex abuse. But prosecutors say the government wants to see Hastert held accountable for the crimes he committed that CAN still be prosecuted. There was no immediate response from Hastert's attorneys. This is the latest legal trouble for Hastert. He pleaded guilty in October to evading bank reporting rules and will be sentenced later this month.
