New Yorkers vote in crucial primary

Both the Democratic and Republican primaries are expected to be the state's most decisive in decades, with frontrunners on both sides looking for a boost in delegates to bring them to the National Conventions in July. Jillian Kitchener reports.

The Clintons got an early start Tuesday -- counting on a big win for Hillary in New York's crucial primary. Up for grabs are 291 delegates to the Democratic convention... And a win for Clinton in her home state would place her as the likely candidate for November's general election. Voters like Susie Kankenburg say they're aware of New York influence over the national race. (SOUNDBITE) SUSIE KANKENBURG, SAYING: "We have so many important issues in the city. We're really a microcosm for the whole country. And with great leaders we'll be a great city, which we are." Republican Donald Trump is favored to win in New York too... where a victory would give him a much-needed boost ahead of rival Ted Cruz. Cruz has outmaneuvered the billionaire businessman in the fight for delegates to the Republican National Convention. But Trump is still in the lead. ...The question on New York primary day is whether he can make a clean sweep of all 95 Republican delegates at stake.
