ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Democratic Presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders outlined his views on the cost of war at a town hall meeting at Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, in which he did not focus on his rival Hillary Clinton's support for the war in Iraq when she served in the U.S. Senate. "The vast majority of the American people not know, have no clue of war," he said. "So when you hear some politician getting up there, telling the world how tough he is, how quickly he is prepared to send troops to this part of the world or that part of the world understand that one, it is not going to be his kids that are going off to that war," Sanders said. "If we don't have the resources, or the inclination to stand with our veterans when they come home then we never should never send the off in the first place," he said. He said however, there are times when military forces is necessary such as when freedom in the U.S. is in danger or American interests are in danger. He also added that it was very easy for former President George W. Bush to "show how tough he was...but the consequences of that war have been obviously terrible." Sanders also defended U.S. President Barack Obama saying, "I get up set that President Obama, who has tried not to get us involved, tried to get our troops home get criticized because he is quote unquote weak." His rival Hillary Clinton's dominating double-digit primary election win in New York earlier this week, snapped Sanders' winning streak and made it nearly impossible for him to overtake her delegate lead.
