Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert has been sentenced to 15 months in federal prison. The jail term will be followed by 2 years of probation and sex-offender treatment for a financial crime related to his sexual abuse of high school wrestlers decades ago. Hastert had pleaded guilty to an offense known in the banking industry as structuring -- withdrawing a large sum of money in small increments to avoid detection. He was paying the money to an alleged sex abuse victim. Hastert's attorneys had asked for a probation-only sentence because of his health, remorse and long history of public service. But the judge ruled against that... calling Hastert, once one of the most powerful politicians in the United States, a "serial sex abuser" in handing down the sentence.
