History is made again in Cuba as the first U.S. cruise ship in more than 50 years arrives in Havana Bay. Crowds cheered as about 700 tourists and Cuban-Americans disembarked Carnival Corp's Adonia. A Cuban law prohibiting people born in Cuba from entering the country by sea had recently been lifted allowing visitors to enter by air or by sea. For some people the experience was overwhelming. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) CUBAN - AMERICAN, ROSA MARIA CABALLERO, SAYING: "A lot of joy to bring all these Americans to visit this country and learn and know the Cuban people as I know them." (SOUNDBITE) (English) AMERICAN TRAVELLING ON CARNIVAL CRUISE, JULIE BENSON, SAYING: "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. We are the first people this morning to actually arrive in Havana on a ship (from U.S.). We are overwhelmed. Everybody is very joyful and thankful to have this opportunity." The U.S. and Cuba re-established diplomatic relations a year ago and have signed agreements on issues of common concern like the environment, postal services and direct flights. Carnival Cruise runs bi-monthly one week trips to Cuba from Miami costing at least $1,800 per person, not including visas, taxes and other fees.
