ROUGH CUT (No reporter narration) STORY: Spanish authorities ordered residents to remain indoors and close their windows on Friday (May 13) as a fire raged in one of Europe's largest tire dumps near the town of Sesena, central Spain, 36 kilometers from the capital Madrid. The blaze is reported to have begun at 02:00am local (00:00GMT). The cause is yet unknown, Spanish emergency services said. By daylight over one hectare of the 11.4 covered by the dump containing 70,000 tones of tires was alight, emergency services said, sending plumes of fire 20 feet high into the air and a thick cloud of toxic smoke made its way across the sky. The fire services said the blaze was under control but the main concern for emergency workers was to prevent residents from towns and neighborhoods nearby from being intoxicated by the fumes.
