Every morning, six days a week, Durga Kami gets ready for school. The 68-year-old is probably Nepal's oldest student. He's from the lowest rung of the caste system, called 'Dalit', or the 'Untouchables'. When Kami was younger, he wanted to be a teacher, but was too poor to finish his studies. A few years ago, a higher secondary school gave him a scholarship and provided him with stationary and a uniform. (SOUNDBITE) (Nepali) 68-YEAR-OLD STUDENT, DURGA KAMI SAYING: "I am attending school with the intention of getting myself educated before I die and to impart knowledge to other Dalits as well." Kami gets along well with his classmates, who call him Baa, Nepali for 'Father'. (SOUNDBITE) (Nepali) CLASSMATE SAGAR THAPA SAYING: "We gradually passed eighth and ninth grade and have successfully reached 10th grade. We help him on what he doesn't know and he also asks us questions without any hesitation." Kami hopes to continue studying for the rest of his life.
