Instead of basking in the festive opening of its Shanghai theme park, Disney faces a PR nightmare and possible legal action. It stems from the tragedy at its resort in Orlando, Florida, where an alligator snatched and killed a toddler Tuesday night. The boy's parents have not said they'll sue. But PR experts say the possibility of legal action limits what Disney can say. CEO Bob Iger has offered condolences and talked to the family. One big potential problem: Disney didn't post signs warning about alligators, just "no swimming" signs. A Disney spokesman didn't respond to questions about potential liability. Most legal experts say Disney will want to settle the case. Stanford Law Professor Nora Freeman Engstrom said, "I don't think it is the kind of case where you want to be arguing the ... subtle details of law." Following an alligator attack in 2009 in which the victim lost his arm while vacationing at a South Carolina golf resort, a lawsuit was filed. But it was settled before trial four years later.
