United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is calling on other countries to help support Greece in coping with Europe's migrant crisis. After a meeting with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, Ban praised Greece for its solidarity and compassion. (SOUNDBITE) (English) UNITED NATIONS SECRETARY GENERAL, BAN KI-MOON, SAYING: "Greece deserves our deep admiration. It also deserves greater support from the international community. Greece should not be left alone to address this challenge on its own." About one million people crossed the Aegean Sea from Turkey to Greece last year. Hundreds drowned trying to make that crossing. Now officials say about 8,400 migrants remain on Greek islands while some 48,000 are on the mainland, stuck after a wave of border shutdowns throughout the Balkans. In a symbolic move, Tsipras gave Ban a life jacket, one of thousands washed up on the Greek shores last year, hoping that with additional help, fewer lives would need to be saved.
