Scottish fishermen prepare to vote "leave"

Support for remain may have shown signs of increasing ahead of this week's Brexit vote but, as Stuart McDill reports, fishermen across Scotland are firmly behind the Leave campaign, blaming the demise of their industry on Brussels.

Once a bustling harbour, Eyemouth may look tranquil but it's fishermen are anything but calm The majority of Scotland's fishermen are expected to vote LEAVE on Thursday - blaming the EU for the end of their industry Skipper Brian Blackie has owned the ship since 1994 He says quotas and a cap on the number of days at sea - cut his turnover from more than a million to four hundred thousand pounds a year (SOUNDBITE) (English) SCOTTISH TRAWLERMAN BACKING 'VOTE LEAVE' CAMPAIGN, BRIAN BLACKIE, SAYING: "Everybody's just tired and sick, fed up. It's just not worth the fight. We're all getting older. We dont have the fight ansd the will power to go on anymore." Other LEAVE voters say the EU is not the only problem Former fisherman Billy Ice trawled from Eyemouth from 1974 - he says France and Spain dont enforce the rules as stringently as the UK government (SOUNDBITE) (English) FORMER SCOTTISH TRAWLERMAN BACKING 'VOTE LEAVE' CAMPAIGN, BILLY ICE, SAYING: "I do believe the attitude with the British, the Scottish as well, we're being penalised too much. That's why I think the fishermen are wanting to say look, we've had anough and I do not blame them for that." As Bonaventure leaves Eyemouth for the very last time - many here will be hoping the UK makes its own departure - from the EU this coming Thursday
