ROUGH CUT (no reporter narration) STORY: Flanked by a bipartisan group of Senators, Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) introduced legislation Tuesday, she said would stop individuals on a 'no-fly' security list from having the ability to purchase firearms. Frustrated by earlier failed legislative efforts to pass gun restriction legislation, Collins said a bipartisan approach was required. "Surely, the terrorist attacks in San Bernardino and in Orlando that took so many lives are a call for compromise, a plea for bipartisan action," Collins said. "If we want to get something done, it has to be bipartisan. It has to be simple, and it has to accomplish a purpose. And so, if the purpose is 'no-fly, no-buy' we've accomplished the purpose. Because, if you're on a no-fly list, and you attempt to purchase a weapons, you will not be able to secure that weapon." Senator Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) said. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said the he is working to bring the compromise gun control measure to a vote. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said some changes need to be made to the legislation.
