It began nicely enough. The warmest of welcomes from EU chief executive Jean-Claude Juncker -- for UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage. And then after the kiss -- the kiss-off. (SOUNDBITE) (English) LEADER OF THE UK INDEPENDENCE PARTY, NIGEL FARAGE, SAYING: "Isn't it funny? When I came here 17 years ago and I said that I wanted to lead a campaign to get Britain to leave the European Union, you all laughed at me - well I have to say, you're not laughing now, are you?... You're in denial that your currency is failing. You are in denial (pauses as booed by MEPs) Well, just look at the Mediterranean!" Farage, who campaigned hard to get Britain out of the EU, also made a prediction. (SOUNDBITE) (English) LEADER OF THE UK INDEPENDENCE PARTY, NIGEL FARAGE, SAYING: "I'll make one prediction this morning: the United Kingdom will not be the last member state to leave the European Union. And a warning to the European Parliament about the terms of a break up. (SOUNDBITE) (English) LEADER OF THE UK INDEPENDENCE PARTY, NIGEL FARAGE, SAYING: "If you were to cut off your noses to spite your faces and to reject any idea of a sensible trade deal the consequences would be far worse for you than it would be for us (MEPs booing)." A mixed reception like many breakups.
