Boris Johnson's first day as foreign secretary began with shock and ridicule. (SOUNDBITE) (English) BANK WORKER, ANNA DAVIES, SAYING: "He certainly wouldn't have been my choice for any cabinet post at all, not impressed at all, not a good start at all." His appointment was among many in Prime Minister Theresa May's cabinet reshuffling on Tuesday... moves that dominated headlines on Wednesday morning. One newspaper called Johnson a loose cannon. The surprise choice drew a withering response from French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault. (SOUNDBITE) (French) FRENCH FOREIGN MINISTER, JEAN-MARC AYRAULT, SAYING: "I am not worried at all about Boris Johnson, you know very well what his style is, his method. During the campaign he lied a lot to the British people and now he has his back against the wall." Johnson was a Leave campaign leader ahead of last month's Brexit referendum and was accused of misleading voters about Britain's financial contributions to the European Union. He then spurned a chance to replace now former Prime Minister David Cameron... a relief for some Londoners. (SOUNDBITE) (English) MUSIC JOURNALIST, LEX JONES, SAYING: "I'm kind of grateful that he hasn't ended up as prime minister to be honest. I'm quite grateful to have dodged that bullet." (SOUNDBITE) (English) SALESMAN, JERRY TURNER, SAYING: "Theresa's done it for a reason, obviously to include him in government because if he's outside government, possibly could have more hassle than it's worth." Johnson will have the week to get settled before attending his first EU foreign ministers' meeting in Brussels on Monday.
