ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION). The most iconic landmarks in Paris and Berlin lit up with the colors of the French flag on Friday (July 15) in tribute to the victims of an attack in Nice where a man killed at least 84 people by driving his truck into a crowd. In Paris, crowds gathered around the Eiffel Tower, while Germans gathered outside the illuminated French embassy in Berlin. Many people stood in silence in front of the flower memorial close to the Brandenburg Gate, while the French embassy was lit in the colors of the French flag. French authorities were trying to determine on Friday whether the Tunisian man, who killed at least 84 people by plowing a truck into Bastille Day crowds, had acted alone or with accomplices, but said the attack bore the hallmarks of Islamist militants. Thursday night's attack in the Riviera city of Nice plunged France again into grief and fear just eight months after gunmen killed 130 people in Paris. Those attacks, and one in Brussels four months ago, have shocked Western Europe, already anxious over security challenges from mass immigration, open borders and pockets of Islamist radicalism Three Berlin residents were also among the victims, local authorities in the German capital said. Authorities at the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district office said that a teacher and two students were among the victims. A high school class was in Nice celebrating their recent high school graduation, according to local media reports. The attack came eight months after the Islamist militant shootings and suicide bombings in Paris that killed 130 people.
