French President Francois Hollande was among those to attend this mass at Notre Dame Cathedral to honour the priest killed in Tuesday's church attack. He was one of several top serving and former politicians to pay their respects amid tight security. Father Jacques Hamel, who was 85, was forced to his knees by the two attackers who slit his throat. Hundreds turned out for the mass including religious leaders of other faiths. The Archbishop of Paris called for hope in the face of despair. (SOUNDBITE)(French) CARDINAL ANDRE VINGT-TROIS, ARCHBISHOP OF PARIS, SAYING: "It is this hope, at the heart of the challenge, which forever bars the path of despair, of vengeance, and of death.. It's this hope that animated the ministry of Father Jacques Hamel when he celebrated the eucharist during which he was savagely executed." The two attackers were shot dead as they left the church after Tuesday's bloodshed. One's been identified as 19-year-old Adel Kermiche who was known to intelligence services after two attempts to reach Syria. The identity of the second killer was still unclear on Thursday.
