ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) The mother of a U.S. airman got booed at a campaign rally held by Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence when she asked about Trump's recent attacks on the Muslim parents of a decorated American soldier killed in Iraq. Catherine Byrne, who has a son in the U.S. Air Force, was booed by members in the crowd in Carson City, Nevada when she asked Pence how he could tolerate Trump's "disrespect" towards military families. "Time and time again, Trump has disrespected our nations armed forces and veterans and has disrespected our nation. Will there ever be a point in time when you are going to be able to look at Trump in the eye and tell him enough is enough. You have a son in the military how do you tolerate this disrespect?" Pence responded by quieting the crowd saying, "It's alright, That's what freedom looks like and that's what freedom sounds like." He went on to say, "Captain Khan is an American hero and we honor him and honor his family as we do all military families." Pence defended Trump's support for the military saying he's never met a leader in his lifetime who supports military members and veterans as much as Trump does. The Republican presidential nominee has been widely criticized over his recent comments directed towards the parents of U.S. Army Captain Humayun Khan, who was killed by a bomb in Iraq in 2004. Khan's father Khizr spoke emotionally at the Democratic National Convention of the sacrifice his son had made for the country as an American Muslim, specifically criticizing Trump's proposal to ban Muslims from entering the country. In response to the speech, Trump said Khan's mother Ghazala might not have been "allowed" to speak, implying her silence reflected restrictions placed on women by some traditional Muslims.
