NATURAL ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Syrian government forces delivered food and fuel to neighbourhoods under their control in the divided city of Aleppo using an alternative road after rebels cut off the main supply route into the vicinity, a monitoring group said. Footage broadcast on Syria's state-run television showed trucks said to be carrying the humanitarian aid, driving during the night or early morning. The United Nations on Tuesday (August 9) called for an urgent humanitarian ceasefire in the ravaged city, in which it said two million residents were left without access to running water or electricity after attacks hit civilian infrastructure last week. Insurgents effectively broke a month-long government siege of the eastern, opposition-held, side of the city on Saturday advancing against forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad and cutting off a strip of government-held territory to connect with fighters in the encircled sector.
