Sort of. Two tube lines set to run through night, but only on Fridays and Saturdays. Jut the central and Victoria lines for now. Other routes to start night operations later in the year. Tube network managing director Mark Wild says it will be a boon for the city: (SOUNDBITE)(English) MARK WILD, MANAGING DIRECTOR, LONDON UNDERGROUND "It's great for revellers and parties, and tourists, but it's also an essential thing for London's economy." If the night tube encourages people to go out, it could be a big boost for London's bars and clubs. But safety is a big concern, with thousands of potentially inebriated travellers taking to the rails. The man in charge of policing the underground says his team is well prepared: (SOUNDBITE)(English) SUPERINTENDENT CHRISTOPHER HORTON, COMMANDER IN CHARGE OF POLICING ON THE UNDERGROUND, BRITISH TRANSPORT POLICE "We don't tolerate violence or threatening behavior on the network. It has no place. So we'll have officers out at key locations, particularly those around the nighttime economy - visible, reassuring the public throughout night tube." Not everyone is happy about the new service though. In outer London the underground is actually over ground. And anyone living near a line faces the prospect of tube trains rumbling through the night. (SOUNDBITE)(English) LOVEJIT DHALIWAL, LONDON RESIDENT "You need to really bear in mind residents' concerns about noise, and what we want them to do is to stop the night tube until the noise issues are fixed." Those calls falling on deaf ears, however. After months of delay caused by wrangling with rail unions... The night tube is about to start rolling. UPSOT This train is now ready to depart, please mind the closing doors.
