A British woman has been stabbed to death at a backpackers' hostel in Australia in what police say may have been an "extremist' attack. Two other people were injured - one, a 30-year-old British man who is in a critical condition. The attacker is believed to be a 29-year-old French national in Australia on a tourist visa. Police say he called out "Allahu Akbar" during the attack and when arrested. (SOUNDBITE) (English) QUEENSLAND POLICE SERVICE DEPUTY COMMISSIONER STEVE GOLLSCHEWSKI SAYING: "We have had three people stabbed, one dead, deceased and one critically injured, it's a shocking attack by any standards, so the motivations for it are unclear. As I said, there are many, or a number of different circumstances that could be at play here and our investigation is trying to determine what they are." The government says about 100 people have left the country to fight in Syria alongside groups such as Islamic State. Australia has been on high-alert for attacks by home-grown radicals since 2014. There have been several so-called "lone wolf" assaults. The suspect in this attack is also thought to have acted alone.
