ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION). Story: New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said that Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is being candid and consistent when he continues to tell supporters that he will make Mexico pay for a wall along the U.S. border, following a meeting with Mexico's president. Christie's comments were broadcast Sunday (September 4) on the CBS news program, Face the Nation. He told viewers that Trump's meeting with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto shows that Trump will be a leader for all the people of the U.S. if he is elected president in November. Following his meeting with Pena Nieto, Trump repeated his promise that he will build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico that he will make Mexico fund. When asked about that, Christie said Trump is a skilled negotiator who clearly believes that he will be able to accomplish this, and added that "a lot of people" have lost money betting against Trump. The latest Reuters/Ipsos national tracking poll released Friday (September 2) shows Trump has pulled into an effective tie with Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. The poll showed 40 percent of likely voters supporting Trump and 39 percent backing Clinton for the week of Aug. 26 to Sept. 1.
