ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: U.S. Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Tim Kaine slammed his Republican rival Mike Pence on Friday (September 9) for saying that Russian President Vladimir Putin was a better leader than President Barack Obama. Trump, who has often praised Russian President Vladimir Putin, has drawn sharp criticism from Democrats and some Republicans. In a national security forum on Wednesday night, Trump argued that Putin is a better leader than Obama. His running mate Indiana Governor Mike Pence defended the comment, calling it "inarguable" that Putin is a stronger leader than the U.S. president. Kaine, a U.S. Senator representing Virginia and a former Governor of the state, spoke to reporters during a campaign stop in Birmingham, Alabama. Ahead of the Nov. 8 election, opinion polls have tightened recently between Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, the former secretary of state and U.S. senator, and Trump, a New York businessman.
