One of the U.S. election's controversial symbols is getting an upgrade. Construction crews on the U.S.-Mexico border are taking down the 13-foot-tall chain-link fence here where El Paso, Texas meets Juarez. And in its place, a nearly 20-foot-tall iron fence. One worker says this decision came from north of the border. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) WORKER, THOMAS, SAYING: "This is a request from the United States who want to secure the area. They are reinforcing the area and it culminates in this part." The current wall covers nearly a third of the almost 2,000-mile border. Though Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump wants the wall to cover it entirely. He's vowed to make Mexico pay for the wall to keep out illegal immigrants.
