NATURAL ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) James Shanes went one better than last year as he won the 2016 European Solo Championship in Folkstone on Sunday. The competition is the biggest Motorcycle Grasstrack meeting of the British season and the sport is one of the oldest types of motorcycle sports, dating back to the early 1920s. On Sunday, over 4,000 people watched on as riders from all over Europe competed for the title.Shanes, 19, a motor mechanic from Dorset, England, said it had been his dream to win the championship having come second last year. Shanes will now set his sights on the World Long track title, a series of six rounds, next year where he will take on Dutchman Jannick de Jong. De Jong was three-times defending champion at the European Solo Championships but this year was disqualified because of a technical issue.
