ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Democratic Senator Tim Kaine and Republican Governor Mike Pence clashed on the issue of abortion rights in the first and only vice presidential debate. "The very last thing that the government should do is have laws that would punish women who make reproductive choices," Kaine said. "And that is the fundamental difference between a Clinton/Kaine ticket and a Trump/Pence ticket that wants to punish women who make that choice," he said. Pence shot back saying, "Donald Trump and I would never support legislation that would punish women who made the heartbreaking choice to end a pregnancy." When Kaine asked, "Then why did Trump say that?" Pence said, "Look, he is not polished politician like you and Hillary Clinton." The debate was held in Farmville, a town of 8,000 nestled in the heart of central Virginia, that got a rare spell in the limelight on Tuesday night when U.S. vice presidential candidates faced off at Longwood University in their only debate of the general election campaign. Democrat Hillary Clinton has led Republican Donald Trump in national opinion polls in recent months. On Tuesday, an average of polls aggregated by RealClearPolitics website showed her with 48.1 percent of support compared to Trump's 44.3 percent.
