The Chicago Teachers Union and Chicago public schools struck a last-minute deal over pay and class size, averting a planned strike that would have canceled classes. The aversion of the planned protest made it so some 300,000 students could still attend class on Tuesday. Chicago's public school district is considered the third-largest in the nation. The union described the agreement as "tentative" but Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says it puts students on the path to a "brighter" future.
