Syria's military backed by Russian warplanes have killed more than 150 people in eastern Aleppo this week, say rescue workers. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.

Scenes of devastation and despair in rebel held areas of Aleppo. Amateur video, which cannot be independently verified by Reuters, appears to show aftermath of air strikes that have left dozens of people dead. A girl on the street curses Assad for killing her brother. Heavy bombardment of eastern Aleppo resumed after a brief pause which the Syrian army said was designed to allow civilians to leave. President Bashar al-Assad, with military backing from Russia and Iranian-backed militias, aims to take back all of Aleppo. Rescue workers say more than 150 people have been killed in Aleppo this week And while the Syrian government will allow the UN to deliver aid in parts of the war torn country -- not for rebel held parts of Aleppo. France and the U.S. have already said the Aleppo offensive includes war crimes for which Syria and Russia are responsible. European Union foreign ministers will meet in Luxembourg to discuss Syria and a draft joint statement they said would "strongly condemn the excessive and disproportionate attacks by the regime and its allies." The U.S. and Russia are due to meet in Switzerland Saturday to resume their failed effort to find a diplomatic solution along with counterparts from some Middle East states -- hoping to find an end to a war in its sixth year that has killed 300,000 people.
