Slovak police arrested five suspected people-smugglers in a series of raids. The operation involved officers from Slovakia and Hungary and targeted smugglers shipping migrants into western Europe. Investigators say migrants from Syria, Pakistan and Afghanistan paid up to $1, 000 each. These pictures from Hungarian police show how some were hidden in customised vehicle fuel tanks. It's not clear how many were packed into the tanks at any one time. Officers say the gang smuggled at least 300 illegal migrants last year from Hungary to western Europe, mostly to Germany and Italy. The five men arrested over the smuggling ring face up to 10 years in jail if convicted.
