Race in America, female relationships and Revolutionary China are just some of the themes explored among the 2016 Man Booker contenders. The judges have narrowed a pile of 155 novels to just six. The aim is to find the year's best work written in English and published in Britain. (SOUNDBITE) Man Booker Prize, Jon Day, judge, saying (English): "There is a huge amount of attention paid to the Man Booker Prize and that's partly, I think, by virtue of the critical rigor that underpins the decisions that the judges make. We read all of the submissions, we read them closely and attentively, and we re-read them every stage of the process. I think readers have come to realise that's a fairly good barometer by which to judge quality fiction." £50,000 will be awarded to the winner and that title could have a life-changing impact on a writer's career. (SOUNDBITE) Man Booker Prize judge, Jon Day, saying (English): "I think it is a huge amount of money, obviously, for a writer to win, but on top of that, the recognition and the readers you gain as a winner and indeed as a shortlisted author for the Man Booker Prize are as, if not more, significant. I mean all writers want to be read and I think that's the reason prizes like the Man Booker exist." The suspense will end on Tuesday, October 25th, when the judging panel announce their top pick.
