Hundreds of Muslims in Rome held Friday prayers in an unusual location this week... outside the city's famous Colosseum. The group was there to protest the closure of makeshift mosques. With only a handful of mosques officially registered with the government, most of worship takes place in homes and Islamic cultural centers. The human rights group organizing the protest said police have closed three improvised mosques in Rome in recent months. Protesters said those closures leave them with few options. They've closed the mosques with a lock, this Bangladeshi woman said. If they don't open back up, then I'll pray in this place. We've come here to pray because the mosques are closed, said another person. This is our protest so we can have our mosques back. Recent militant attacks across western Europe have raised fears of radicalization within mosques that are small, unregistered and difficult to monitor.
