ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Amateur video uploaded to a social media website on Saturday (November 12) showed a child being rescued from the rubble of a house in Hazarin in the largely rebel-held Syrian province of Idlib, shortly after the area was targeted by air strikes. The footage showed smoke coming from damaged buildings and members of the Syrian Civil Defence, or White Helmets, using hoses to extinguish fires as a haze of smoke covered the area. Rescuers were then seen lifting up damaged property inside one burnt-out house, when people suddenly begin to cheer and shout as a small child is rescued from the building and handed over to a man, who runs off with it in his arms to get help. One resident, Ali Marel, claimed that the air strikes were targeting a group of schools but instead struck nearby houses. Syria's President Bashar al-Assad, supported by Russian air power and Iranian-backed militias, is fighting against an array of mostly Sunni rebel groups, including some backed by Turkey, Gulf monarchies and the United States. Idlib contains the largest populated area of Syria controlled by rebels - including nationalist groups under the banner of the Free Syrian Army and Islamist fighters including the former al Qaeda affiliate Jabhat Fateh al-Sham.
