ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio met with President-elect Donald Trump at Trump Tower in New York City on Wednesday, where the two spoke of the controversial police tactic known as 'stop-and-frisk,' among other issues. "I talked to him about police-community relations in general, and specifically the question of 'stop-and-frisk'. I tried to provide perspective on how 'stop-and-frisk' can create a wedge between police and community when it was used in an unconstitutional manner, and how since we changed that policy, the city has gotten safer," de Blasio said. U.S. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has praised "stop-and-frisk" policing methods that have aroused protests and successful legal challenges, for singling out minorities. The anti-crime tactic in which police stop, question and search pedestrians for weapons or contraband, gained traction in New York City under Mayor Rudy Giuliani. But opposition to the practice led police departments in New York, as well as Chicago and Newark, New Jersey, to agree to cut back on its use, in some cases submitting to outside monitoring and improving police training. "I would be swift to react any time an action is taken that will undermine the people of New York City," de Blasio said.
