Lufthansa pilots' strike disrupts more flights

A Munich labour court has rejected a request by Lufthansa to issue a temporary injunction averting a strike by the German flagship carrier's pilots on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to union Vereinigung Cockpit. As Laura Frykberg reports, another 1,700 flights are now likely to be cancelled over the next two days.

It's been a frustrating week for flyers of Lufthansa. Nearly 2,800 flights have been cancelled since Wednesday. After a four-day strike by the pilots' union over pay. SOUNDBITE) (German) PILOTS' UNION VEREINIGUNG COCKPIT (VC) SPOKESMAN, JOERG HANDWERG, SAYING: "We have been through many, many rounds with Lufthansa and have tried over and over again to attempt a reset and we have still not been presented with a reasonable offer." Turmoil for travellers is now set to continue. More walk-outs are planned over the next two days. Grounding another 1,700 flights. Impacting around 180,000 passengers. (SOUNDBITE) (German) LUFTHANSA SPOKESMAN, MARTIN LEUTKE, SAYING: "We have made several offers that have all been rejected, they've instead chosen to call more strikes. This cannot be the solution." Neither it seems was legal action. Lufthansa went to court in Munich to try and get a temporary injunction to avert the strike Unions say the request was rejected. A similar attempt made in Frankfurt last week also failed.
