The day began with a thunderous, 21-gun salute... and tens of thousands of Cubans paying last respects to their beloved late leader, Fidel Castro. They're lining Revolution Square for a two-day commemoration. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) RAMON PAREDES, CUBAN MAN, SAYING: "I am paying homage to my leader, Fidel Castro, upon his death. I am honoring him because everything I am, I owe to him." Castro was cremated on Saturday, dead at the age of 90. His ashes will be taken to Santiago de Cuba, the eastern city where he led and launched the revolution that brought communism to Cuba. Juan Martinez More fought for Castro, helping defend Cuba during the failed Bay of Pigs invasion. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) FORMER BAY OF PIGS COMBATANT, JUAN MARTINEZ MORE, SAYING: "Today is a painful day for me because we have lost our commander in chief, physically, but we have him and will always have him in our hearts." In the hearts of many of these men and women... though also vilified by many others who viewed him as a dictator and oppressor of the same people he claimed to be saving.
