The statue was lit in the colours of the Chapecoense team but thick fog made it scarcely visible. Seventy-one people died when the plane crashed into a mountainside near the Colombian city of Medallin after reporting electrical problems. At the team's locker room a memorial's been set up. The dead also included members of the coaching and support staff, and journalists travelling with them. A more public vigil's been held for fans of the team which had a fairytale rise from Brazil's fourth to top division in seven years. The plane was taking them to play in the final of a major South American club competition when it went down. In the Colombian capital, Bogota, fans of the side Chapecoense was due to play held their own vigil in memory of the victims. Atletico Nacional awarded the championship title to Chapecoense in a symbolic gesture to its rivals in a match they will never play.
