Second escaped inmate recaptured in California

A California fugitive is recaptured a week after he escaped with another prisoner who was caught the day before, bringing an end to their manhunt as police now investigate who might have aided their escape. Mana Rabiee reports.

A week-long manhunt in California comes to en and. Police found 33-year-old Rogelio Chavez at an apartment in San Jose under the influence of narcotics. He escaped Santa Clara County jail last week with another inmate -- 26-year-old Laron Campbell who was captured at his sister's house the day before. Police say the men rappelled down the side of the jail using rope made of clothing, after cutting through window bars. SHERIFF LAURIE SMITH, SANTA CLARA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE, SAYING: "We haven't found whatever it was they used to cut the bars. Not been located. We were able to find the bars themselves but not whatever kind of tool they used." Chavez was awaiting trial for numerous charges including burglary and false imprisonment. Campbell was also facing trial for robbery and false imprisonment. Both men face life in prison if convicted. A woman in the apartment with Chavez was arrested as an accessory in his escape. Campbell's sister was also detained on suspicion of harboring a fugitive. Police are trying to determine if any others helped in the men's escape.
