Over one-hundred years after the Titanic sank in the North Atlantic Ocean it is being reborn in...Southwest China. The doomed passenger liner is having a second life as a full-scale replica with particular attention paid to authenticity. SOUNDBITE: (English) TITANIC DESIGNER EXPERT, CURTIS SCHNELL, SAYING: "...the shell of the ship, and the exteriors will be quite accurate there will be interior rooms to be able to tour, and seen from the standpoint of historical accuracy." At the keel-laying ceremony local residents said the new build could be beneficial to the community - but not if it means having to relocate. SOUNDBITE: (Mandarin) 60 YEAR-OLD DAYING COUNTY RESIDENT AND VILLAGER NEAR ROMANDISEA RESORT SITE, LI JIEYONG, SAYING: "If we're not going to have to move out of here then that will be really good for us. Us old folks might do a little business in that case. But then if we have to move then that won't be any good. They wouldn't provide enough compensation for us to get by." Built by Star Energy Investment Group the ship will offer tourists a simulation of the original Titanic iceberg collision, and sinking. But the company's CEO, has said needed "adjustments" mean: the finishing date has been pushed to the end of 2017. It's $160 million priojected budget has been exceeded already and he won't reveal by how much. Time will tell if this is just another sinking ship - simulated or not.
