The news of Fidel Castro's death at the age of 90 was announced by his younger brother Raul. He said the Cuban revolutionary leader passed away on Friday evening. He'd been in poor health since an intestinal problem nearly killed him in 2006. Fidel Castro ruled for 49 years, building a communist state on the doorstep of the United States and defied all Washington's efforts to topple him. He outlasted nine U.S. presidents in power. He handed over power to Raul Castro in 2008.
